 It's all about the creative process...

Figuring out designs and sourcing the textiles, the embellishments and  the fastenings is half the fun!  
The other half is being able to use Grandma's old 1930's treadle sewing machine
to put it all together-most therapeutic with its rhythmic treadling to and fro action...

Every bag has an interior zipped pocket and two open pockets. Sometimes vintage buttons are used and beads are refashioned from old jewellery,  otherwise, unless stated, all the materials used are new.

Just a little word about Sustainability

We're all becoming much more aware of our responsibilities towards the environment and
in view of this I'd like to explain how Toots Totes is tackling this tricky issue.

*Bags don't take too much fabric to make so I can use up remnants from other people's bigger projects.
*I also use vintage (unused or preloved) fabrics, recycle costume jewellery for zip pulls and use vintage buttons.
*I refurbish old wicker bags giving them a new life.
*I also offer a FREE refurbishing service for any bag you have bought from me,
e.g.to replace a worn lining to save you buying new.
*Nothing is wasted: off cuts of wadding go to soft toy makers and each tiny snippet of fabric is gathered up
and given to a school or individuals for collage and crafts.
*My packaging is eco-friendly. I use cardboard boxes, brown paper and paper tape.
*Occasional plastic mailers are repurposed bags I have received in the post.
*Oh - and not to forget - I'm using treadle-power not electricity to fuel my machine!
